Trevor Lingle
Ever since I was little I loved
making art. How I got started is a mystery to me. Neither my father or mother
had been big in art, but both my sister and I had found an interest in it. Art
was the one thing we both connected on and because of that, I delved into it
further. Art was a way fro me to express myself in a way that words could not.
I continue to look at experiences and things around me in order to find
inspiration. If something sticks out to me as interesting then I take a mental note
of it to go back to later. I take that idea and manipulate it through art. I
manipulate the idea in order to express either a clearer or more direct idea. I
want my art to evoke an idea or emotion to the viewer. What the emotion or idea
is may change from spectator to spectator, but as long as something comes to
the viewer then my mission has been accomplished. I have used ink and
watercolor as my primary medium. Through looking at other artists I have
developed my own technique. The works are slightly cartoon like with the stand
out black lines, but the darker subject matter takes it out of that happy
connotation associated with cartoon styles. To this point I have become fond of
using watercolor and ink. The way watercolor can blend together freely and the
lack of control is a freeing feeling when making a piece. Then there’s the
contrast of the generally light watercolor with the deep dark black lines from
ink. I use a calligraphy pen to draw in the lines, and details, which are unachievable
with watercolor. Then there is acrylic. Acrylic is the blend between control of
ink or pencil, and the lack there of with watercolor. Direct vibrant colors can
be seen with acrylic, and through the control of the paint more can be achieved
in detail that is unattainable with watercolor.
